There’s no way we could’ve believed Star Wars games were going to die with the closing of LucasArts. No,it was the Monkey Islands, Full Throttles and Grim Fandangos of LucasArts glory years that were truly lost in that unfortunate studio closure.

To be perfectly frank, you can probably count on one or two hands the fun, good and notable Star Wars games that have come out since 2000.

I know the knee jerk reaction from the gaming community is to be wary, skeptical or even insult EA. Lots of gamers are mistrusting of EA as a whole, despite putting out some of the most successful and best games on the market. That’s not to say they put out winners all the time. Their games run the spectrum of great to shitty so often you’d think someone is slipping their devs Ex-Lax at random. There’s a very real possibility that their take on Star Wars games could be a disappointing waste of time, but more than likely they’ll provide a few good titles.

DICE, Visceral and Bioware are strong studios with fair track records and everyone’s already familiar with Bioware’s Star Wars related work. Imagine a new, re-vamped Battlefront 3 for the current gen by the makers of Battlefield or a brand new KOTOR! This is just my opinion, but I think maybe it’s time to step away from the Old Republic era. I understand there’s a lot of freedom there since nobody really addressed it before Bioware, but I think at a certain point you’re just beating a dead horse. It’d be nice to maybe see the Knights of the New Republic or 100 ABY where Darth Talon and Cade Skywalker are at odds.  It’s just a thought, they could use anything and I’d probably eat it up.

I was reading through reaction comments on Facebook to the news and someone referred to  Visceral as “declawed” probably based on the more action oriented vibe to Dead Space 3 and the overall “why bother” vibe of a brand new Army of Two game. I disagree, though really, it could’ve gone to any studio do we need another crass, sardonic poorly written shooter, EA?

It’d be really cool if Visceral could pick up where LucasArts left on 1313.  The concept of the game alone had me sold. It’s not the strongest of stories, but imagine a Dead Space-esque Death Troopers game that injects some much needed graphic violence into an otherwise blood-free universe.

The possibilities are endless for this galaxy far, far away even with general trust issues people seem to have with EA. Healthy skepticism is apart of any reaction, but a quick, emotionally charged fanboy outrage just displays a form of ignorance the industry and community alike need to learn to get over.

With all that said, better not fuck it up, EA!

Seriously though, just read some of the comments on this photo

it’s mostly sniveling and bitching. There’s a certain air of truth behind itself
